Alisa Korotaeva’s “Cold Fuji ” has a certain charm, it is to my eye more a preliminary sketch than a finished composition.
There is an eye-pleasing symmetry thanks to the foreground reflection, but the non-descript houses and the unfortunate utility poles give it a dull, cluttered mid-section.
Weather is always a take it or leave it proposition, but the flat and featureless sky don’t help much to show off the famous peak. I’m not sure you could ever win the fight with those houses, but if the picture was framed so that its left and right edges were set where the slopes of Mount Fuji intersect the darker foreground features, it might make this a stronger shot.
