2nd Winner of Image Review 6. By Ian English:
I recently returned from a trip to Cuba. This image was taken in Cienfuegos from a tower looking down on the main square in the city.
I wanted to capture some of the colour of Cuba including the old cars for which Cuba is renowned. I was delighted when all three elements came together.

Don’s response

Ian English’s picture is a perfect example of Cartier-Bresson’s “decisive moment”. It’s so close to perfect that at first glance I thought it might have been staged (not that that’s necessarily a bad thing!).

The way the elements have come together is extraordinary. It’s so beautifully balanced and I love the way the orange cap echos the orange flashes on the near the wheels, while the red foreground figure’s shirt and white shorts have their echo in the cuban flag motif on the boot.

Amazing.
