I accidentally shot this at ISO 3200 when I was trying out my new camera for the first time. Luckily the RAW images produced by the camera retain a lot of detail so I was able to produce this result with Adobe Lightroom 5.6.
The grain adds to the image in Black and White. In colour, it detracts from the image.

There’s something to be said for happy accidents in photography.  In this case photographer Glenn Schultes ended up with a grainier result than he’d originally intended.

It’s easy to see how the converging lines of the old pier pilings caught his eye but I’m not sure about the very wide angle. Imagine going instead for a portrait aspect ratio, losing a little of the foreground and confining the pilings to the central third of the picture…
