Night sky photography is a technically demanding art form. Done well, as in Matt Kinny’s picture, it can be both spectacular and unearthly.
Our night vision is not capable of seeing the Milky Way as the camera captures it, but that takes nothing away from this beautiful image of our home galaxy.
The artificial light is somewhat distracting, but was likely unavoidable given the location.
Matt probably set up after dark too because the horizon isn’t straight, but again, that stunning sky makes up for such minor deficiencies and I quite like the way the mountain range and dark sea anchor the picture.
