By Mike Moore. Ben “Beechy” Hoystead in a makeshift halfpipe near the outskirts of Adelaide, South Australia.
A magical spot built by the amazing Ryan Lloyd, ridden and loved by many.

Don’s response
Your eye goes straight to airborne BMX rider in this strong picture from Mike Moore, but it’s what happened next that I found most interesting. After initially focusing on the figure against the sky, I found my attention zooming back out to the full frame and then back in again on the bikes, shovels and water bottles under the shadowy cliff on the right. Then I noticed how the rider and his mates had used the tools to make the curved ramp that arcs up from the foreground and toward the rider.
While it would have been a mildly interesting – if somewhat generic – action shot with those shadow details cropped out, by leaving them in, Mike gives us a kind of mini documentary about how the shot came about. Clever.
