A Blue heron taken side-on in some marsh areas near Lakes Entrance Victoria while on holidays.
Had a couple of front-on shots earlier but then decided something from the side.
I thought shooting from the side/rear gave a better dimension on the landing prowess of these wonderful birds.

Photographer Ron Watton’s the over-the-shoulder angle and sharp timing captures the fine detail of this Heron’s plummage beautifully.
The angle of the light helps as well, providing as it does both modelling of the bird’s form and separation of it from the busy background.
A great catch.
