Birds in Flight

By Phoebe Edwards

San Remo pier, Victoria.

Everything was warm. The evening air, the concrete against my back as I lay face-up on the pier, the voices of my friends behind me. Even the inside of my mouth, salty from fish and chips. Above us, the birds were morphing their collective shape, an endless transformation in flight, reminding us of the beauty of change.

Don’s response

Even without photographer Phoebe Edwards’ evocative description of the moment this picture was taken, I think the feeling she describes still comes through.

Gazing up at the clouds, watching a flock of pelicans leisurely soaring overhead is by its nature a dreamy and calming experience.

The distinctive grainy texture of a film image only adds to the unhurried, timeless quality of this little moment.
