Canon PowerShot S100
Canon has taken one of its most successful digicams, the PowerShot S95, and upgraded it with a new sensor and image processor, longer zoom lens and better ergonomics to produce the PowerShot S100. It's also reduced the price by $50 and added a GPS receiver/logger to make the new model even more appealing to travellers. ... [more]
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT3
Panasonic's DMC-FT3 represents the third generation of a line that began in with the FT1, which set the benchmark for rugged, waterproof cameras. The lens hasn't changed since the first model; nor has the LCD monitor. After a brief flirtation with 14.1 megapixels on the FT2, Panasonic has returned to 12.1 megapixels for the FT3 but added some worthwhile improvements.  ... [more]
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ20
It's been just over a year since we reviewed Panasonic's last TZ-series camera, the TZ10. This camera has been so popular it's little wonder the company waited until January 2011 before unveiling not one but two updates: the TZ20 and a simpler (and cheaper) model, the TZ18. Many of the features that made the TZ10 a success have been upgraded to better suit the target market: travellers looking for a full-featured, pocketable camera.  ... [more]
Ricoh CX5
Aside from cosmetic modifications, nothing much has changed in Ricoh's CX series of slimline digicams since the CX3 was released early last year. The sensor is the same 10-megapizel back-illuminated CMOS chip and the camera has the same retracting 10.7x optical zoom lens. But under the hood, there's a new, faster 'hybrid' AF system plus three new scene modes.  ... [more]
Olympus SZ-20
This year, Olympus has created a new 'traveller' category in its super zoom camera range with three models that are more compact than the SP-series models and more competitive with similarly-featured cameras from other manufacturers. Announced on 10 March, the SZ-20 sits bang in the middle of this range and is designed to suit both travellers and family photographers.  ... [more]
Canon Ixus 310 HS
Essentially an update to the Ixus 300 HS, Canon's new 12.1-megapixel Ixus 310 HS provides a slightly higher-resolution sensor, a wider zoom range and a larger LCD monitor with higher resolution and a widescreen aspect ratio. Canon has also improved the new camera's video capabilities by adding Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) recording at 24 fps to the previous model's 720p capabilities.  ... [more]
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX7
The Cyber-shot DSC-WX7 is one of five 16.2-megapixel cameras announced by Sony at the CES Show in January. Designed primarily for snapshooters, it's the first to be available for review and also claims status as the first compact digicam with a 3D Still Image mode that can record stereo pairs with only one lens and sensor.  ... [more]
Ricoh CX4
Ricoh's CX4 is a relatively minor upgrade to the CX3, which was announced in February this year. The 10-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor and Smooth Imaging Engine IV image processor appear unchanged, as does the 10.7x optical wide-angle zoom lens. Video capture remains at 720p maximum resolution.  ... [more]
