Canon PowerShot G1X
Having received one of the early production units of Canon's 14.3-megapixel PowerShot G1X we're now able to produce a full review of this exciting new camera, which is due for release in March. The G1X slots into the flagship position in Canon's G series without replacing the PowerShot G12 (which will remain on sale for the foreseeable future). For additional background information, check out our detailed 'first look' by clicking here.  ... [more]
Sony Alpha NEX-5N
The NEX-5N sits between the NEX-C3 and NEX-7 in Sony's Alpha series of E-mount cameras and has features common to both. Its sensor has similar resolution to the NEX-C3's, and is higher than the NEX-5 it replaces, but it supports the same movie recording formats and resolutions as the NEX-7. The NEX-7's Picture Effect settings carry over to the NEX-5N but the Creative Style settings are the same as the NEX-C3's.  ... [more]
Corel AfterShot Pro
Corel's AfterShot Pro, which was announced on 10 January, has been developed as an alternative to Adobe's Photoshop Lightroom and Apple's Aperture. Fully multi-threaded and optimised for multi-core and multi-CPU computers, it's built around the raw file processing engine developed by Bibble Labs, which Corel purchased last year.  ... [more]
FIRST LOOK: Canon PowerShot G1X
Canon is a late-comer to the large-sensor compact camera category and its first offering, the 14.3-megapixel G1X, isn't an interchangeable-lens camera. The naming of this camera is unfortunate because of its similarity to Panasonic's recently-released DMC-GX1, although the G1X is totally different. Instead of releasing a mirrorless interchangeable-lens system, Canon has extended an existing - and very successful - camera design.  ... [more]
Tokina AT-X 17-35mm f/4 FX Lens
Tokina's recently released SD 17-35mm f/4 AT-X PRO FX lens is designed for Nikon and Canon cameras with 36 x 24 mm sensors but can also be used on Canon and Nikon bodies with APS-C sized sensors. Offering a 2x zoom at moderately wide angles of view, it's one of a series of wide-angle zoom lenses the company produces.  ... [more]
Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO FX Lens
Announced in July 2010, Tokina's AF 16-28mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro SD FX is the first in a new generation of ultra-wide angle lenses for cameras with 35mm-sized imagers. There's no point in buying this lens for a camera with an APS-C sized sensor because it's big and bulky and there are plenty of lighter and cheaper alternatives that are just as fast. Competition is much less in the target market and Tokina's pricing is lower than for similar lenses from Nikon and Canon.  ... [more]
Canon PIXMA Pro-1
The PIXMA Pro-1 is the latest - and most sophisticated - model in Canon's A3+ printer range. Announced in October 2011, the Pro-1's release was delayed by the flooding in Thailand but it's just gone on sale locally. The Pro-1 uses LUCIA pigment inks, which dry quickly and have lightfastness ratings of up to 200 years under archival storage conditions.  ... [more]
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1
Following our 'First Look' at Panasonic's new GX1 a month or so ago, we have now received an 'early' production unit for a complete review. Equipped with the 16-megapixel Live MOS sensor introduced in the G3, it's the company's most feature-rich and photographer-friendly model to date. The mode dial makes a welcome return and there are four customisable function buttons; two on the camera body and two on the touch-screen.  ... [more]
