Sony to Release High-End AVCHD Camcorder

February 16, 2010: Next month will see the release by Sony of its HDRAX2000 pro-sumer camcorder which can capture Full HD video using AVCHD technology.

This high-end semiprofessional camcorder records full 1920x1080/50i high definition video at up to 24Mbps, using progressive scan at 1080/24p and 25p to capture film-quality motion. The HDRAX2000 uses three 1/3-inch (4.8 x 3.6 mm) Exmor CMOS sensors plus a new Enhanced Imaging Processor. Ann innovative column-parallel analog-to-digital conversion technique and grid arrangement of the photodiodes provide high sensitivity (with a minimum illumination of 1.5 lux), superior resolution and colour accuracy, high-speed reading and a wider dynamic range than previous models.

CinemaTone Gamma and CinemaTone colour settings complement the HDRAX2000's 25p capabilities by providing the colour and gamma range for a high-end feel plus extra control over the ‘look' of the recorded video.  The HDRAX2000 is equipped with a 20x, 29.5-590mm Sony G-Series lens, which includes extra-low dispersion glass and compound aspherical elements. Optical SteadyShot stabilisation is improved with an Active Mode that allows the camcorder to compensate for a greater degree of camera shake.

The HDRAX2000 also features Sony's 3.2-inch, 921,000-dot, 16:9 aspect ratio, Xtra Fine LCD screen and 1,226,000-dot Xtra Fine LCD electronic viewfinder. It has dual card slots for both Memory Stick PRO Duo and SDHC media. Dual XLR 3-pin audio jacks enable professional quality audio recording by providing +48V phantom power to external microphones. The grounded connection also allows insertion/removal of connectors in live equipment without picking up external signals.

The HDRAX2000 will go on sale in March at an RRP of $5799 through consumer electronics retailers nationally, from Sony Centre stores in major capital cities and online at www.sony.com.au. For more information, phone Sony on 1300 720 071.
