Samsung Announces Four New Digicams

January 9, 2009: Details of four new Samsung digicams have just been announced at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The new 10.2-megapixel WB500 features a
4.2-42mm (24-240mm equivalent) Schneider lens with 10x optical zoom plus both Optical and Digital Image Stabilisation.  Manual adjustments are provided for shutter speed, aperture, exposure, and focus and the new model can capture video in 720p high-definition at 30 frames/second (fps) using H.264 compression. Optical Image Stabilisation can be used while shooting video clips. Samsung's Successive Recording mode allows users to pause and then resume filming without having to save the clips as individual files.


Samsung's new WB500 model features 10.2-megapixel resolution plus a 10x optical zoom lens.

At just 16.6mm thick (excluding the lens), the 12.2-megapixel ST50 is a truly pocketable camera. It features a brushed stainless steel body, 3x optical zoom lens and large 2.7-inch LCD monitor. Samsung's new Smart Auto feature automatically selects the appropriate scene mode for the environment users may be shooting in. Video clips are recorded in MPEG4 format at SVGA resolution.The ST50 and WB500 include Face Detection, Smile Shot and Blink Detection technologies.


The slimline Samsung ST50 has a 12.2-megapixel sensor and 3x optical zoom lens.

Completing the new releases are the ES55
and PL60, which have been added to the SL series. Both models offer 10.2-megapixel resolution plus Face Detection AF and AE. both are powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. The ES55 has a 3x optical zoom lens, Digital Image Stabilisation technology and a 2.5-inch LCD screen, while the PL60 features a larger 2.7-inch LCD display, a more powerful 5x optical zoom lens and Dual Image Stabilisation. The ES55 can record MJPEG video at VGA resolution, while the PL60 uses MPEG4 video compression and records at SVGA resolution.
