January 8, 2009: Pentax has added two new models to its Optio range, the compact Optio P70 and Optio E70.

The ultra-slim Optio P70 is a high-performance model with a metal body, 12-megapixel CCD imager and 4x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 27.5mm-110mm in 35mm format). It sports a 2.7 inch high-resolution LCD panel with a wide-angle view plus new Pixel Track Shake Reduction technology. Advanced Face Recognition can track up to 32 faces in 0.03 seconds. The P70 also includes both Smile Capture, which automatically releases the shutter when subjects smile, and Blink Detection, which alerts users if the subject's eyes are closed. Digital Shake Reduction sets the sensitivity up to ISO 6400 to prevent subject blur, HD movie captures video in widescreen 720p at 15 FPS.
