Nikon Announces New 300mm Lens and Teleconverter

December 10, 2009: Next month will see the release by Nikon of two new high performance lens products compatible with the FX format.

The AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II is a fast telephoto lens with the latest  built-in Vibration Reduction (VR II) system, which promises approximately four f-stops of  camera shake compensation. Constructed with 11 elements in 8 groups, the optical design includes three ED glass elements and Nano Crystal Coat technology to cut back internal reflections and minimise ghosting and flare. One protective glass element is also included.
Weighing approximately 2.9 kg and measuring 267.5 mm in length, this lens takes 52mm diameter filters.

The new lens has an angle of view of 8 degrees 10 minutes (5 degrees 20 minutes with Nikon DX format cameras) and a minimum aperture of f/22. Closest focusing distance is 2.3 metres in AF mode and 2.2 metres with manual focusing. An internal Silent Wave Motor provides smooth and silent autofocusing. The A/M (autofocus with manual override; AF priority) focus mode prevents accidental switching from auto to manual focus. M/A (autofocus with manual override; manual priority) mode enables manual focusing by rotating the focus ring while autofocus is operating and M (manual) mode.

The AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E III is an FX-format compatible teleconverter that doubles the focal length of the primary lens. The world's first teleconverter with an aspherical lens element, it features a new optical design that offers superior contrast and resolution. Weighing approximately 330 grams, it consists of 7 elements in 5 groups and comes with front and rear caps plus a flexible pouch.
