Maxtor BlackArmour Storage Solution

October 10, 2008: Seagate Technology has unveiled its new Maxtor BlackArmour encrypting storage solution, a portable storage device that delivers robust security in a compact, user-friendly design.

The Maxtor BlackArmour external hard disk drives use a government-grade AES encryption, which is certified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to deliver the strongest commercially available data security available for external storage. Delivered in a compact package, Maxtor BlackArmour drives are available in 160GB (RRP $179) and 320GB (RRP $259) capacities and weigh only 208 grams. Each drive measures only 131 x 84 x 16.5 mm. The drives interface with computers via a USB 2.0 connection.

Maxtor BlackArmour drives provide transparent, real-time encryption of all the data on the device, not just selected files. All security keys and cryptographic operations are located within the device, delivering stronger protection against hacking and tampering than traditional software alternatives. The BlackArmour product's key encryption technology can also securely wipe out the data for simple, cost-effective redeployment or disposal of the product.  Each drive ships with Maxtor Manager software suite from the popular OneTouch 4 product family. The software includes capabilities such as automated backup and multiple computer synchronisation.
