Google Launches Picasa for Mac Beta

January 8, 2009: Google has released a beta version of its Picasa image organiser/editor for Mac users.

The freeware application includes a drag-and-drop photo collage tool, retouching brush for removing scratches and blemishes, a slide show movie maker that uploads users photo montage videos to YouTube, a smart auto-cropping tool with cropping guides and auto red-eye removal facilities. As well as working  non-invasively with Apple's iPhoto, Picasa for Mac integrates with Picasa Web Albums, Google's free photo-sharing site.

iPhoto users who currently use Picasa Web Albums Uploader plug-in can continue to do so, although features like automatic web sync and photo collages will only be found in the new Picasa for Mac application, which can be downloaded free of charge from http://picasa.google.com/mac/.
