DxO Labs Launches Sensor Metrics Website

November 18, 2008: DxO Labs has unveiled a new website that provides objective metrics for  key aspects of sensor performance for a variety of cameras, measured directly on raw image files.

Available as a free online resource, dxomark.com makes it possible for the first time to assess the intrinsic quality of a camera before the impact of any raw file conversion. The site provides detailed measurements in graph form of all the relevant characteristics of a sensor, including:
- actual ISO sensitivity (which generally differs from the value reported by the camera);
- signal-to-noise ratio;
- dynamic and tonal ranges and
- color depth and sensitivity.

Currently the metrics for 50 popular cameras – DSLRs and high-end compact digicams that support raw file capture – are available online and the site will be updated on a regular basis as new cameras are released.
