Canon Announces EOS 1D Mark IV

October 20, 2009: Canon has released details of its latest professional DSLR camera, the EOS 1D Mark IV, the first of its type to offer Full HD movie recording plus fast burst speeds for shooting stills.

Replacing the popular EOS 1D Mark III, the new model offers higher resolution and an extended range of sensitivity settings as well as a significantly higher-resolution LCD monitor and new 45-point area AF system. Resolution has been increased to 16.1 megapixels (effective) and the 27.9 x 18.6 mm APS-H sized CMOS sensor has a focal length crop factor of 1.3x and a 3:2 aspect ratio.

Dual DiG!C 4 image processors support faster data processing with 14-bit A/D colour conversion to ensure outstanding image quality with fine detail, low noise and accurate colour reproduction. They also underpin the camera's new autofocusing system and provide support for the extensive movie recording capabilities. The EOS 1D Mark IV claims the world's fastest AF continuous shooting performance at 10 frames/second for up to 120 JPEG or 28 raw shots in a single burst.

The EOS 1D Mark IV will be available through Canon retailers from December. RRP has still to be determined. For more information, contact Canon on 1800 021 167, or visit the website at www.canon.com.au.  Photo Review has posted a First Look detailing the main features of the new camera, based on an intensive hands-on preview of a pre-production sample.
