World Press Photo Exhibition Coming to Australia

February 26, 2009: Canon will once again bring to Australia an exhibition of winners in the prestigious World Press Photo contest, which showcases the best of the past year's professional press photography.

This exhibition features the award-winning photographs from the 52nd annual World Press Photo contest, which attracted entries from
5,508 photographers around the world in 2008. Single photographs and photo stories were judged in 10 categories: Spot News, General News, People in the News, Portraits, Sports Action, Sports Features, Arts and Entertainment, Contemporary Issues, Daily Life and Nature. The jury comprised picture editors, photographers and representatives of press agencies from across the world.

The international jury gave prizes in 10 theme categories to 62 photographers of 27 nationalities. Overall winner of the World Press Photo of the Year was American photographer, Anthony Suau, for a black-and-white image showing an armed officer of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department moving through a home in Cleveland, Ohio, following eviction.
