May 5, 2008: Winners of the 2008 Head On Portrait Prize were announced on 1 May at the Australian Centre for Photography.
In front of a record crowd of well over 1000 people, the Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore who presented the prizes to the three (equal) winners: Brendan Esposito for his image 'Sweet Dreams', Richard Kendall for his image 'Leonard & William at Alfred Hospital' and Tobias Titz for his image 'Ginger Bob'. The 'Critic's Choice' award went to Montalbetti & Campbell for their image 'Hazel & Ken Kelly'. The winners of the competition received prizes with a total value of $32000 from Canon, Adobe, SanDisk, ACDSee, Focal Press and Dragon Image.
An exhibition of 42 images, selected from the 2400 submissions to this year's competition can be seen at two venues. From 1 May to 7 June, the images will be on show at the Australian Centre for Photography, 257 Oxford Street, Paddington (Sydney). The show will then move to the Vivid Photography Festival in Canberra for display between 9 and 22 July at M16 Artspace, 16 Mildura Street, Fyshwick (Canberra).
Talks involving finalists in the competition and Head On founder and curator, Moshe Rosenzveig, will take place on Saturday 10 May, 1pm at the Australian Centre for Photography, 257 Oxford Street, Paddington.
