Frith Photo Library Goes Online

May 4, 2008: The Frith Photo Library, a rights-managed collection of historical photographs, is now accessible online.

The Francis Frith Collection is a collection of photographs taken by professional photographers who worked for the Frith company. They were originally taken for sale as souvenir pictures. The collection totals more than 360,000 photographs taken between around 1860 and 1970 and covers 7,000 cities, towns and villages in the British Isles. Many have been taken at regular intervals allowing 'now and then' comparisons. Currently 120,000 digitised images are available, all searchable by place name and date with 15,680 currently searchable by keyword.

Historical images in the Francis Frith Collection can now be viewed and purchased online.

Images in the library can be viewed free of charge and a price quote can be obtained for images visitors wish to purchase. High resolution files can be provided by email, FTP or on disk. To view the library, visit
