We asked Photo Challengers to dial in a slow shutter speed and then to 'pan for success' in Challenge #41. Since it was such a wide open brief we didn't have any particular expectations about what we might receive. But, as usual, the creative responses ranged widely across the blurry landscape of slow shutter photography.
First place went to Amanda Bull for her sporting shot entitled Ghostly Cricket. Amanda's slow shutter produced an image with an almost dreamy, balletic quality. As our winner, Amanda will be receiving a 16GB Kingston DataTraveler Vault Privacy Edition USB Flash drive (RRP $420). The Data Traveler will give her a secure way to store and transfer her images.

Our first runner up was Janet Dampney's balletic photo of a cutting horse. We think most viewers will agree that her picture has a marvellous movement and momentum. A terrific first-up effort, Janet.
This is my first attempt at a challenge. This was taken last week at the horse cutting, in the indoor horse complex at Tamworth. Cutting is very fast, as well as being indoors, and not owning expensive fast lenses this was a challenge - for me at least. I also needed a high ISO as I was not using flash. It is my nephew's wife on the horse, I quite liked the horse's eye being sharpish while the rest is blurred, which may be not what you are looking for, but I thought I would at least have a go. Other images we particularly liked include Jennifer Houghton's instantly recognizable, yet abstract rendering of Australia's most famous building, Bill Ker and Wayne Pearson's colourful abstractions, Zorica Purlija's swirling portrait and Gary Richardson's hurtling mountain bike rider.
